Golpes de calor: consejos para prevenirlos

¡Está por llegar el verano! Esperamos todo el año los días de sol, pero hay días donde el calor es insoportable.

Es que, cuando hace mucho calor, el cuerpo tiene dificultades para regular su temperatura y aparece el agotamiento, que puede convertirse en lo que se llama golpe de calor. Por eso, te damos algunos consejos para que lo prevengas en los más chicos y también en los más grandes.

Los días de altas temperaturas y humedad pueden transformarse en un riesgo para la salud. Estamos más tiempo al aire libre y bajo el sol. Por eso, cuando hace mucho calor, se recomienda:

  • Ofrecer a los niños agua o jugos naturales en forma frecuente, sin esperar a que los pidan
  • Ofrecer el pecho más seguido a los lactantes
  • No tomar bebidas con cafeína o azúcar en exceso
  • Bañar a los niños o mojarles todo el cuerpo con frecuencia
  • Proponer actividades tranquilas y evitar juegos intensos
  • Evitar que los chicos transiten y jueguen expuestos al sol, menos aún en horario del mediodía o a la tarde temprano; si los chicos deben transitar bajo el sol, ponerles sombrero de ala ancha, usar protectores solares (factor 15 o mayor) y hacer frecuentes descansos a la sombra
  • Procurar que permanezcan en los lugares más frescos y ventilados
  • De ser posible, estar por momentos en ambientes con aire acondicionado, en tu casa o en los lugares públicos que lo posean; pueden usarse ventiladores, pero teniendo en cuenta que no son suficientes para refrescar cuando la temperatura ambiente es muy elevada
  • Vestir a los niños con ropa holgada, liviana, de algodón y colores claros o mejor aún, desvestirlos
  • Incorporar sal en mayor cantidad que lo habitual
  • Nunca los dejes dentro de un vehículo estacionado y cerrado
  • No ingerir bebidas muy frías (causan dolor de estómago)
  • No consumir líquidos o comidas calientes o pesadas

El golpe de calor puede ser muy grave; con los primeros síntomas o ante la duda no demores la consulta con su pediatra o en el Centro de Salud más cercano.

Para jóvenes y adolescentes, también el golpe de calor puede ser un riesgo. Por eso, es importante no consumir bebidas con alcohol en esos días muy sofocantes, ya que el alcohol aumenta la temperatura corporal y las pérdidas de líquido. Por eso no es conveniente tomar cerveza ante la sed y el calor.

También es bueno evitar esfuerzos físicos o actividades deportivas exigentes. Es mejor reunirse y charlar con amigos, escuchar música o leer cuando hace mucho calor. Si te sentís con mareos o fatiga, es fundamental sentarse y descansar.

Es muy importante tratar de visitar a los abuelos mayores para ver cómo están; ellos también, como los más chicos, son muy vulnerables al calor.
